Form 8832 is a document submitted to the IRS to change the default tax classification of partnerships, single-member LCCs, multiple-member LLCS, and certain types of foreign entities.
LLCs are automatically assigned a default tax status, but this is not always the most cost-effective tax classification. To maximize tax savings, some LLCs will file Form 8832 and request to be taxed as a sole proprietorship, partnership, C corporation, or S corporation.
Generally, Form 8832 is filed if you want your LLC to be taxed as a C corporation.
